The reconstruction of the Parkdale Market started this week, and Parkdale Park will also receive an upgrade and redesigned facilities, courtesy of newly approved fe deral infrastructure funding.
Please come to the public consultation to view and comment on the Parkdale Park redesign this Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Connaught Public School Library, 7pm – 9pm. City of Ottawa park planners intend to put the design out to tender this Fall so now’s the time to comment on the new design.

The City of Ottawa is undertaking planning and functional design for the DOTT that will result in the expansion and improvement of its downtown rapid transit network. This project is identified as a priority within the City’s Transportation Master Plan Update, which recognized the need for a rapid transit facility fully separated from general traffic through Ottawa’s downtown to accommodate existing and future transit ridership, while improving service reliability.

Previous open houses provided an overview of potential alignments and alternative station designs, as well as the Maintenance and Storage Facility needed to support operation of the new rapid transit line. In May, 2009 Ottawa City Council approved the recommended alignment and station locations. Since that time the project team has commenced functional design of the project to develop more details regarding the planning, design and construction and cost of all elements of the project.
The City has also carried out a study to determine the appropriate transit technology for the DOTT and future extensions to the City of Ottawa’s rail rapid transit network. The findings and recommendations of this study will be presented as a part of this open house and presentation.
Your Input is Needed!
The open house and presentation will showcase the functional design work that has been completed for the DOTT project as well as the recommendations of the Transit Technology Choice Study. Your participation in this event, which will help shape the future of Ottawa, is important. The open house will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m.

The Project Environmental Assessment (EA) Phase will be initiated after completion of the Project Planning and Functional Design Phase. This will consist of a co-ordinated EA that meets the requirements of the new “Transit Project Assessment Process” (Ontario Regulation 231/08) under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (OEAA) and the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).

La Ville d’Ottawa entreprend la planification et la conception fonctionnelle du TTCCVO, qui aboutiront à l’amélioration du réseau de transport en commun rapide au centre-ville. Ce projet est l’une des priorités relevées dans la mise à jour du Plan directeur des transports, soit la nécessité d’isoler le système de transport en commun rapide au centre-ville de la circulation normale afin de répondre au taux d’achalandage actuel et à venir et d’améliorer la fiabilité du service.

Les séances portes ouvertes précédentes ont permis de présenter les possibilités de tracés et de conception des stations, de même que l’installation d’entretien et de remisage nécessaire pour soutenir le fonctionnement des nouveaux circuits de transport en commun rapide. En mai 2009, le Conseil municipal d’Ottawa a approuvé les recommandations de tracés et d’emplacement des stations. Depuis, l’équipe de projet a entrepris la conception fonctionnelle du projet pour mieux évaluer la planification, la conception, la construction et les coûts associés à chaque composante du projet.
La Ville a également mené une étude pour déterminer quelle technologie de transport est la plus appropriée pour le TTCCVO et les prolongements éventuels au système de transport en commun par train léger sur rail de la Ville d’Ottawa. Les conclusions et les recommandations de cette étude seront présentées au cours de la séance portes ouvertes.

Seront présentés, au cours de la séance portes ouvertes, les progrès de la conception fonctionnelle du TTCCVO de même que les recommandations tirées de l’étude sur les technologies de transport en commun. Votre participation à cette réunion, qui façonnera le futur d’Ottawa, est importante. La séance aura lieu de 17 h 30 à 20 h 30, et la présentation commencera à 19 h.

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Fall Give Away Weekend will take place Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25 at the conclusion of Waste Reduction Week
So don’t throw away your unwanted household goods. Set them out at the curb with a sign or label indicating that they are free.
Treasures Could Include
* Books, CDs and DVDs
* Old furniture and small appliances
* Construction materials – including drywall and hardware such as nails, bolts and screws
* Kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
* Unwanted gifts
Rules for Give Away Weekend
* Place items at the curb
* Place stickers or signs on items with the word “FREE”
* Ensure any items that you want to keep don’t get mixed up with your Give Away items at the curb
* At the end of each day, bring any uncollected items back to your home
Please consider safety when deciding which items to set out to the curb. The Consumer Product Safety Bureau of Health Canada advises that used children’s items such as baby walkers, yo-yo balls, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses and other child-related items should not be placed out at the curb.
Remember, items not picked up can be donated to charitable organizations or placed on used-item websites.
Give Away Weekend Etiquette
* Respect other people’s property. Don’t walk on lawns and gardens
* Take only the items marked “free”
* Don’t discard previously picked-up treasures on another person’s lawn
Fall Give Away weekend is another way to help the City RETHINK GARBAGE and maximize landfill space, protecting our most precious treasure – our environment.

Ce qui est sans valeur pour l’un est peut-être sans prix pour l’autre. La Fin de semaine don-débarras de l’automne, aura lieu le samedi 24 octobre et le dimanche 25 octobre, au terme de la Semaine de la réduction des déchets.
Ne jetez pas les articles dont vous ne voulez plus. Disposez-les plutôt en bordure du chemin, lors de la Fin de semaine don-débarras de l’automne, en indiquant avec une affiche qu’ils sont gratuits.
Exemples de trésors
* Livres, disques compacts et DVD
* Vieux meubles et petits électroménagers
* Matériaux de construction, y compris cloisons sèches, clous, vis et écrous
* Accessoires de cuisine, vaisselle, coutellerie, marmites et poêlons
* Cadeaux qui vous sont inutiles
Règles de la Fin de semaine don-débarras
* Placez vos articles près du chemin
* Posez une étiquette ou une affiche indiquant « GRATUIT » sur les articles
* Assurez-vous que les objets que vous souhaitez conserver ne sont mélangés à ceux que vous désirez donner qui sont placés près du chemin
* À la fin de chaque journée, rentrez à l’intérieur tous les articles qui n’auront pas trouvé preneurs
Veuillez garder la sécurité en tête en décidant quels articles mettre en bordure du chemin.
Le Bureau de sécurité des produits de consommation de Santé Canada recommande de ne pas mettre les articles pour enfants usagés comme les marchettes pour bébé, les balles de type yo-yo, les lits de bébé, les sièges d’auto, les poussettes, les parcs, les sièges de baignoire, les matelas, les stores, les jouets et autres articles pour enfants en bordure de la chaussée en vue de s’en débarrasser.
N’oubliez pas que tout article non recueilli peut être offert à un organisme de charité ou annoncé sur les sites Web d’articles usagés.
Règles de conduite à suivre durant la Fin de semaine don-débarras
* Respectez la propriété d’autrui. Ne circulez pas sur les pelouses et dans les jardins
* Ne prenez que les articles marqués « Gratuit »
* N’abandonnez pas sur la pelouse d’une autre personne un trésor trouvé ailleurs.
La Fin de semaine don-débarras est une autre façon de REPENSER LES DÉCHETS, de maximiser l’utilisation de nos lieux d’enfouissement et de protéger notre trésor le plus précieux : l’environnement.

- Fisher Park Public School Cafeteria, 250 Holland Avenue
TD Friends of the environment Foundation will be giving out free energy conservation kits at the seminar including CFL lightbulbs, a power bar, low flow showerhead and faucet, and water bottle (valued about $45).
