Ottawa City Council approved the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) in November 2008, including a vision for achieving an integrated, citywide transit solution to better serve communities across Ottawa. The specific type of technology needed to achieve this vision has yet to be identified.
To address the technology issue, the City of Ottawa is hosting an LRT Technology Forum on June 20, 2009 that will bring together the public, transit experts, technology providers and key stakeholders to identify the best transit technology options for the City’s new LRT system.
You are invited to take part in the Forum on Saturday, June 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 at City Hall. Presentations by staff and technology providers will be followed by small group discussions. There will also be an opportunity to visit displays and engage with other participants and technology providers.

The City has prepared a series of background documents to highlight the technology related issues associated with building the new LRT system. Get informed by reading the papers. Then, send your comments no later than July 15, 2009.

WHY DO WE NEED TO RALLY?
Help us stop a bad process.
As you may have heard, the City of Ottawa is currently negotiating an unsolicited proposal for the future of Lansdowne Park with a consortium of local developers.. That’s right, developers. Not citizens, who are the tax payers and park users. There has been no public or competitive process to invite ideas and proposals for Lansdowne Park–nearly 40 acres of public land facing the Rideau Canadal, a world heritage site.
Think about the costs
Much of this deal is still under wraps, but we do know that it includes spending $125 million of Ottawa tax payers’ money to refurbish the stadium and arena , giving up public land for 250,000 square feet of retail, and handing over city control of nearly 70% of park for 30 years.
Get it right – Make Lansdowne great for future generations
Our goal is to see the City return to its original plan of an open design competition. One that would produce a variety of ideas, visions and possibilities for this great public space.
Join us at a public Rally on Sunday June 14 at 1:00 p.m, Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne Park. Tell the City that you want to see the future of the Park decided not just by a few, but by everyone.
